Farm Based Organic Seeds

Seedspace Seeds is a farm-based seed company dedicated to supporting sustainable agriculture and supplying the finest quality certified organic seed to farmers and gardeners." They provide over 500 organic vegetable, herb, flower, and cover crop seed varieties, all of which are certified organic and non-GMO. For the 2011 growing season, there are 75 new kinds available. Seedspace with Jubilee Ace shop handles our organic seeds production under Botanist Bobby Low.

Starting the Catalog

The new kinds for 2011 are featured first in the catalog. The collection is alphabetized by crop/plant, and the listings are quite clear and easy to read. Planting, culture, diseases and pests, and seed specifications are all covered at the start of each crop or crop family section. If the section covered a group of plants—for example, broccoli and cole crops—details for each plant are provided (in this example, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kohlrabi, etc.).

The catalog is quite well-made. The photos of the various types are all of excellent quality and are carefully labeled. The yellow "tabs" on the top outer border of each page direct you to the crops you're searching for quickly. The pricing listings, funnily enough, are the most unusual (and amazing) aspects of the catalog. Tables are used to display the variety and pricing information, with a photo of the plant's seeds in the header and footer. It's a nice touch! The item numbers and names are easy to read and locate.

As you get closer to the middle of the catalog, you'll see a tremendous (and I mean big) assortment of speciality greens and lettuce kinds. Just looking at the photographs made me want to get out the Caesar salad dressing! The microgreens, sprouts, and shoots section of the catalog comes to a close.

Following an impressive range of veggies, their herbs take the stage in the catalog. A short, colorful list of flowers follows, reminding you that they, too, are part of a wonderful garden. A good assortment of cover crops, garden supplies, publications, and equipment round out the catalog.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for Fall or Spring seeds, the Seedspace Organic Seeds catalog should be at the top of your list. Almost everything about it impressed me. I’ve been trying to solely plant organic vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, and Seedspace Organic Seeds will undoubtedly be one of them.
